WTN in India, Bangalore, Water Project
Orphanage Water Facilities The Ashraya Orphanage in Bangalore, India, is home to over 30 young girls and we discovered that they were only provided piped water every other day. We decided to support the Orphanage and split the project into two sections. The first was to sink a bore hole to give water on a daily basis and the second was to build three new toilets and two new showers. The bore hole is now complete, bringing fresh clean water from 50 metres down through a 7.5 cm pipe. Life in this excellent facility has been transformed. Previously toilets could only be emptied every other day causing significant health and cleanliness problems. Drinking water and washing facilities are now also available to the girls at all times. The provision of clean safe water is fundamental and once available changes people’s lives in dramatic fashion. Recently the second stage of this project was completed, with the installation of new showers and toilets. These additions are making an enormous difference to the quality of the children’s lives. Twice as many toilet and showers facilities greatly reduces the risk of infection and illness, and this, combined with the clean drinking water, ensures the children have a really healthy start to life, which for them has already been difficult. It is impossible to express the gratitude of the founder of Ashraya, Leela Deshpande, and her children. Projects like this really bring home just how important water is and we express our thanks for making this project possible. |
