Nepalese Village Water Project

In 2004 we were approached for help by some people running a small orphanage in Godavari, in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.

They had a enough money to build a new orphanage but the land they had bought was continually flooded because of a damaged waterway that ran along two sides of the perimeter.

This not only caused them a problem, it was also a problem for the people whose water was running through the waterway because their flow was inhibited and polluted.

Thanks to the efforts of David Thompson and his sponsors for the Great North Run (2004) we were able to raise the funds to have the waterway repaired.

This enabled the orphanage to be built and the local people to have clean water.

It was a wonderful project and on one occasion the local people heard they needed labour to help with a part of the project that had been overlooked, and about fifty people turned up to help.

Moments like this make it all worth while.
