Zambia, Sanitation Projects
Following on from our successful HST school/farm project we realised there was a need for clean water and better sanitation facilities to ensure the children and local villagers were protected from intestinal worms. We entered an agreement with HST to build a male/female toilet with a small shower unit. There are six WCs for girls and four urinals and two WCs for boys. There is clean running water and good drainage facilities. After the successful toilet block/water supply project in the grounds of the HST School, we were asked by our colleagues in Zambia if we would consider a similar project in the grounds of a school/hospice run by Mother Theresa's Organisation, Missionaries of Charity. On daily basis scores of people visit the facility, sometimes several hundred, and the only facilities available are two small toilets, one for men, the other for women. The sisters run the facility for school children, minor illnesses and as an HIV/AIDs hospice. We started this project in May 2004. |
